I love this for multiple reasons, but mostly because when I read it, in the NY Times of all places, it makes me proud to be a Southern Baptist. It’s been a while since that’s been true. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all say this about our church? Who’d have thought an article in the Times could make me consider moving to St. Louis?

Well I always find little gems in the Times and other left-leaning publications, I just have to look for them. I agree with you. I love this article also. Though I identify with the Southern Baptist church, I refuse to let the church govern my politics. The church’s job is to “go and make disciples” and to teach. I think if you teach em’ about Jesus, like Pastor Wiles sometimes says , ” Or it may be that God’s calling you to make a change in your heart today…The people around you will know there’s a change.”
You don’t and can’t prove to this world you’re a believer by your politics in my opinion.
